How we calculate.

Everything you see on Trilume is calculated, never typed in by hand. Here are the rules, so you can redo it all yourself.

The life path

The day, the month and the year of birth are each reduced to a single digit (by adding their digits), then the three are added and reduced again. The master numbers 11, 22 and 33 are kept as they are at every step. It is the most common method, and the app's.

The name number

Each letter is worth a digit on the Pythagorean table: A, J, S = 1; B, K, T = 2; C, L, U = 3; D, M, V = 4; E, N, W = 5; F, O, X = 6; G, P, Y = 7; H, Q, Z = 8; I, R = 9. Accents do not count (É = E), Œ counts as OE, ß as SS. All the letters of the first names and the surname at birth are added up, then reduced, keeping 11, 22 and 33.

The personal year

The day and month of birth, reduced, plus the current year, reduced. It changes every 1 January and follows a nine-year cycle.

The Sun, the Moon and the rising sign

Your birth time is converted to universal time using the official time zone history (daylight saving included) of your birthplace. Positions come from Astronomy Engine, an open astronomy library, checked against the Swiss Ephemeris to within one arc-minute. The rising sign is the sign coming up on the eastern horizon, at your latitude and longitude.

What stays with you

Everything is calculated in your browser. When you share your reading, your data travels in the link after the # sign, which browsers never send to the server. Our server never receives your date, your name or your birthplace.

The limits

If your birth time is approximate, your rising sign can change: it changes sign about every two hours. On the days the Sun changes sign, only the time and place can settle it. These are readings, not predictions.
